LB Resident Donates $60,000 to Children Today All News
1/15/2009
Long Beach, CA - Children Today, Inc. has received a $60,000 donation from Long Beach resident John C. Wavell. The unrestricted donation will be used to provide curriculum and program support to Children Today's two child care centers in Long Beach - The Play House West and Play House North.

"This gift will have a wide impact on Children Today's clients," said Executive Director Dora Jacildo. "Each infant, toddler, and preschooler will benefit from Mr. Wavell's generosity and commitment to our mission."

In making his donation to Children Today, Mr. Wavell noted the significance of investing in underserved families in Long Beach. His $60,000 donation comes at a time of increased private giving to Children Today. In December 2008, over 300 people attended the 11th Annual Holiday Cheer, which raised over $240,000.

In 2009, organization directors and staff plan to further increase private giving and involvement opportunities with the creation of a membership program and by establishing an endowment. Through John Wavell's investment, the endowment will now be created and exist and grow through the life of the organization.

Children Today was founded in 1998 and provides quality, no-cost child care to children and families experiencing homelessness in Long Beach. The Play House West is located at 1301 W 12th Street, Long Beach, CA 90813. The Play House North is located at 1900 E South Street, Long Beach, CA 90805.
