1st Annual Golf Tournament Raises $18,000
Long Beach, CA – On Monday, June 29, 2009, Children Today hosted its 1st Annual Golf Tournament to further support child care and early education programs for children experiencing homelessness in Long Beach. The tournament at Old Ranch Country Club was a great success, involving over 100 golfers and numerous sponsors who collectively contributed a net of $18,000 to Children Today’s play house programs.
Coming in first place at this inaugural golf tournament is Team Matt Knabe; second place is Team Carl Kemp; and third place is Team Port of Long Beach, led by Heather Morris. Event sponsors included The Port of Long Beach, Keesal Young & Logan, County Supervisor Don Knabe, Electric Vehicle International, Laserfiche, HMBD Insurance, Rich Development, and the Kemp Group.
“Being that this is a first-year tournament, I am ecstatic about the results…this is a testament to the wide support of Children Today’s mission in the Long Beach community” said Masy Bunnell, who coordinated the First Annual Golf Tournament along with fellow board member Alex Cherin.
Children Today provides community based services to children and families facing homelessness, fostering long-term stability and success. Through two child development centers, Children Today provides high quality, no-cost early care and education to children while their parents take steps toward regaining family stability. The annual Golf Tournament is one of several new initiatives the agency is implementing to strengthen its funding sources and prepare for expansion to a third facility.
