Curriculum
Goals and Objectives Children Today has adopted The Creative Curriculum for Toddlers and Preschool. Teachers conduct individual observations and assessments of children to determine curriculum goals and objectives and meet weekly to develop lesson plans that address each child's goal. Daily activities are child-driven; teachers introduce activities and carefully observe children in order to identify opportunities to naturally extend their learning.
Using The Creative Curriculum model, teachers will reassess children every trimester to guage their development and meet with each child's parent to discuss the assessment and establish new goals or refine existing goals. Overarching curriculum goals are divided into two groups, as follows:
Toddler Goals
Learning about themselves Learning about their feelings Learning about other people Learning about communicating Learning to move and do Learning to think
Preschool Goals
Goals for Social/Emotional Development Achieving a sense of self Behaving in a pro-social way Taking responsibility for self and others
Goals for Physical Development Achieving gross motor control Achieving fine motor control
Goals for Cognitive Development Learning about problem-solving Representing and thinking symbolically Thinking logically
Goals for Language Development Listening and speaking Reading and writing
Children with Disabilities or Other Special Needs Our Child and Family Counselor, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), conducts developmental assessments for each child and makes referrals to the appropriate organization when developmental delays or conerns are identified. She works with teachers to ensure that each child's Individual Plan is geared toward meaningful participation in the program.
